Uh.........don't ask. Really. BLAME THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL! Or ABC. Either way, its TV. I was at my grandparents house, and I was booooored. I do not do well bored & without internet access. It does things to my brain...
Its a bird. Sorta. Well, a bird with highly poisonous quills on pretty much every part of its body. And razor-sharp claws & beak. And its a carnivore. Whee! And I don't have a name for it, so help would be appreciated. Well, I do have a Latin for it thanks to 3m0cLoWn, which is "Venenifer volatilis everto". A common name would still be greatly appreciated however!
See the long yellow-orange-red blade-thingies all over it? Those are the long hollow quills filled with a potent highly toxic poison that, if you get it into your system, will cause you to go insane & die a horribly painful & agonizing slow death. The ones on its head & the ones on its back go stiff & straight when threatened, and the male has longer quills to intimidate rivals & impress others. The claws on its feet have a powerful grip, and despite the birds size it is able to fly, due to it having a large enough wingspan to support it when its wings are opened fully. It has a nasty temper, and is highly territorial, preferring to fight to the death over fleeing when threatened. It will live in groups of 1-6 creatures, and the bond between the birds in this group is immense. It is mainly a carnivore, and prefers to eat what its killed instead of others kills, but when food is scarce it will eat carrion &, if desperate, fruits and berries. Its immensely difficult to tame them, even when raised from an egg, but if somehow someone manages to do so, they would have a loyal companion for life.
And see? THAT is why you don't leave me without intarwebs. I get plot bunnies. And the plot bunnies breed quickly. And it also makes me rant. But annnnyway....enjoy the bad-ass birdie *dodges the beak of one of them* Meep, I don't think it likes being called birdie...
Everything you see or read here belongs to me. And if anyone steals this they will DIE! M'kay? If you wanna use this, all ya gotta do is ask me...
It's pretty. It reminds me of a certain Pokemon, I don't remember it's name, but this looks like the second evolution...sorry if that's an insulting thing to say to a monster-artist. I was one once. Ought do creatures again, in fact...The description was amusing and almost like something one would see on the Discovery channel. The poor bird looks sorta mellow. Nice art.

Thanks for the compliment, actually ^^ I'm a fan of pokemon, and I hafta say sometimes I draw a bit of inspiration from it, although this was trying to be purely original XD And I was, in a way, aiming for a discovery-channel ish feel to this. So, again, thanks heaps ^^

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
